Complete Analysis
Summary
Reality Thread 8 adds E2V1’s first agriculture (garden beds, watering, kitchens, recipes), in-world quest creation, Hordes and Property scanners, experimental multiplayer beach balls, and broad survival, quest, and performance improvements. Rollout is staggered over several days; full details on earth2.io.
What Reality Thread 8 is
Reality Thread 8 (May 26, 2026) is Earth2’s next major E2V1 release—about two months after RT7. The headline is Growing a Garden: the first agriculture loop in E2V1, plus kitchens, cooking recipes, in-world quests, world scanners, and a large batch of performance and UX work.
Features roll out over roughly 5 days; the announcement was published slightly ahead of the rollout. E2V1 remains Pre-Alpha—expect bugs during rollout.
How to use this page
- This summary orients readers and links to the official RT8 post.
- Do not treat this file as patch notes—Earth2 may revise details, timings, or requirements after publish.
Growing a Garden (core gameplay)
Garden beds and watering
- Garden Beds — craft, clear vegetation (Defoliator or Land Clearing Set), place with a Shovel on owned land (1 bed per 10 tiles; T1–T3). Uses the Global Build System (green/red placement hologram).
- Watering Can — fill in shallow water (30 units per can); 6 matching seeds per bed; water only while the sun is up; timed growth phases, then owner-only harvest (all 6 crops).
- Gaia Pulse Reactor — optional item to spend Essence and skip a growth timer (100% ESS burn at launch; not required to garden).
Kitchen and recipes
- Kitchen — land-based upgrade from the Cooking Pot Set (1 kitchen per 50 tiles on owned land). Anyone can use kitchens for now; future access fees possible. No cooking times in this first version.
- New recipes — farm ingredients, multi-step cooking (e.g. process crops into oils, then meals), oriented toward Hordes preparation and survival.
Land and economy notes
- Harvested crops cannot be teleported—local production and future shops are intentional.
- Salt and fresh water both work for watering for now; fresh water, desalination, and landowner water control are planned later.
Quests and player economy
- In-world Quest Creation — on owned property via Mentar (P → Create Quest) or the Quest Link item; quests broadcast globally (E-ther or Essence rewards).
- Best Value sorting — ranks quests by reward, quantity, and teleport cost to the destination.
- Quest Preference Filter — hide item types you do not want to see; preferences persist across sessions.
World scanners (Free Flight)
- Hordes Scanner — scan 1–5 km² for staked properties with Horde activity; tier colors (gold T1 Special, purple T1, blue T2); processing can take minutes; toggle markers with J. Hordes likely need ~9+ tiles on a property.
- My Property Scanner — same flow, highlights your properties in the scanned area.
Other notable systems
- Basic Structure Demolition — Shovel on your own Garden Beds or Kitchens (permanent; no salvage yet).
- Beach Ball and Superior Beach Ball — experimental multiplayer physics at planetary scale; Superior version lets you transform into a ball (invulnerable, vitals frozen). One-time use; experimental.
- Superior Backpack — inventory cap 500 → 1000 (Backpack Upgrade Rune).
- Water Bottle — portable hydration (5 drinks per fill).
- Fully clothed characters (hat, shirt, pants, shoes) get 50% slower thirst drain.
- Recipe Ingredient Identifier — highlights correct craft/cook ingredients in the UI.
- Character Renaming and Alive / All filter in Character Select (find dead characters to revive).
- Glider Free Camera — hold Left Ctrl while gliding to look around without changing glide direction.
Performance and fixes (high level)
RT8 also includes skin optimization, faster gathering and inventory UI, vegetation-clearing fixes (ghost collision after defoliation), spawn/Avatar mode improvements, sun/moon and global time sync fixes, and Quest/Character UI polish.
Access
Viscount of Parcels badge holders gain E2V1 access after RT8 is stable enough (possibly after hotfixes).
Why RT8 matters
Earth2 frames RT8 as connecting farming → cooking → Hordes prep → quests → regional economy → land utility. Garden beds test persistent multi-state buildings; scanners test live world data in the 3D view; beach balls test server-authoritative multiplayer physics—foundations for Hordes, shops, Weaver/EcoSim, and future storage.
